Speaker Bios:
Roberta (“Robbie”) Kaplan, founding partner of Kaplan, Hecker & Fink LLP, is most famous for representing Edie Windsor in U.S. v. Windsor, in which the United States Supreme Court ruled that a key provision of the Defense of Marriage Act, or DOMA, was unconstitutional. More recently, she filed a lawsuit under the Klu Klux Klan Act of 1871 against 24 neo-Nazi and white supremacist leaders responsible for organizing the violence in Charlottesville in August 2017 and represents the former Elle columnist E. Jean Carroll in her defamation case against Donald Trump.
John Quinn, is a partner of Kaplan, Hecker & Fink, LLP, and has been with the firm since its founding in 2017. John has a high-profile civil litigation practice, ranging from complex commercial litigation on behalf of tech companies and celebrities to significant public interest matters. He is a board member of the Ali Forney Center, the nation's largest homeless shelter and community center for LGBTQ youth.
Joshua Matz is a partner at Kaplan, Hecker & Fink, LLP, and a former law clerk to Justice Anthony Kennedy. He recently rejoined the firm after serving as impeachment counsel for the House Judiciary Committee. He and John Quinn successfully challenged Starkville, Mississippi's denial of a permit for a Pride parade. His appellate and Supreme Court practice includes many cases addressing LGBT rights and religious freedom.
