Join us for a fireside chat with two HLS alum where we reorient the legal mind from goal-oriented drive to value-centered growth. Led by Jacques Anderson (HLS ’14) Executive Coach and Human Design Guide and Melanie Zuch (HLS ’14) former immigration attorney and Coach, this event will delve into the dichotomy between goals and values, particularly in the high-pressure context of the legal field.

As a society, especially among high-achieving lawyers, we tend to be entirely goals-focused, which can lead us to cycles of disappointment, depletion, and a sense of never being enough. By focusing on core values first, we empower ourselves to show up every day as the person we want to be, regardless of what we have or have not yet achieved. We can (and should!) work towards goals, but by emphasizing values first, we make the whole journey worthwhile, not just the part of the journey where we reach the destination.

During this interactive discussion, attendees will participate in a live exercise to identify their core values and learn ways to integrate them into practical, daily applications. By shifting the focus from aspirational goals to foundational values, as advocated by Russ Harris of Acceptance and Commitment Training, lawyers can cultivate resilience, fulfillment, and adaptability in both their professional and personal lives.
